The Dangers of becoming self sufficient

Self-sufficiency is a quiet trap — it looks like strength and ends in distance from God. A sobering word on staying dependent on the only source that never runs dry.

There is a danger that rarely feels like danger: the slow drift into believing we can manage on our own. Success can wean us off our knees. Provision can make us forget the Provider. And the branch that congratulates itself on its fruit forgets it is holding nothing without the vine.

Stay joined. Bring God back into the decisions you have started making alone — the finances, the plans, the strength you have been running on. Apart from him we can do nothing; abiding in him, we cannot help but bear fruit that lasts.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
